MalacaƱang on Tuesday said that funds used for the unregistered COVID-19 vaccine were from donations, and urged the public to not think ill of the doses administered to several members of Presidential Security Group (PSG).

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that the administration of vaccines were free and should not be taken badly.

“Wala pong bayad ang pagturok sa PSG. Huwag nating masamain dahil para ito sa ikabubuti ng kalusugan ng Presidente,” Roque said.

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Director General Eric Domingo said that they are already looking into the reported use of unregistered vaccine to PSG personnel, which was manufactured by Chinese company Sinopharm.

However, Roque maintained that the use of the vaccines are legal as it was not paid by the government, but instead was a donation.

An existing law prohibits the “manufacture, importation, exportation, sale, offering for sale, distribution, transfer, non-consumer use, promotion, advertising/sponsorship of any health product that is adulterated, unregistered or misbranded.”
