A group claiming to be the Philippines' Sinopharm coronavirus vaccine distributor on Friday disavowed the involvement of giving unauthorized shots to the members of Presidential Security Group (PSG).

“As to the recent distribution of the Sinopharm vaccine undertaken for the benefit of the PSG, MKG was not a part of it,” said "Jose" of MKG Universal Drugs Trading Corporation in a Dobol B sa News TV interview on Friday.

Another representative, "Juan" said the company will follow the country's regulations of vaccine distribution.

“We are committed to follow the regulations in securing the EUA (emergency use authorization) and the distribution of the vaccine will start by first quarter of 2021,” he said.

Both representatives refused to reveal their identity for security reasons.

An EUA, which is issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), provides that evaluation of the vaccine shows it is safe and effective.

MKG representatives further said that they already received FDA application and delivered to Chinese Sinopharm headquarters, which will be the one to submit required documents for emergency use application.

But according to FDA Director-General Eric Domingo, only Pfizer, from United States, have submitted an application for its vaccine's EUA.

However, the MKG group said they will not provide any comment if Sinopharm vaccines used by President Rodrigo Duterte's security personnel were smuggled, which earlier claimed by Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.

“We cannot comment on that,” Juan said.

Under the FDA law, it is illegal to import, distribute, manufacture, use unregistered product, including vaccines.

PSG Commander Jesus Durante earlier said that his unit got vaccine doses and only informed Duterte, who also claimed   the inoculation among military men, about the fact.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, Jr. has justified the vaccination on PSG as a necessary step to protect the President.

Without identifying the source, officials had said that the vaccine was a donation.
