Ranked according to the higher education institutions' visibility, transparency or openness, and excellence or scholar, University of the Philippines (UP) lead Webometrics Web Ranking in the Philippines. 

The latest 2020 Edition of the Webometrics Ranking of World’s Universities, published on January 28, ranked the world’s higher education institutions for Presence, Impact, Openness, and Excellence.

The Webometrics Ranking of World’s Universities released by the Cybermetrics Lab at the end of January 2021 revealed UP in first rank for the Philippines with a World Rank of 1,242 out of over 20,000 universities worldwide. 

UP holds the Asian Rank of 326 and UP Diliman, the flagship campus of the UP System notched 349th spot out of 15,843 schools in the region.

Leading the list are the country's "Big Four" universities: University of the Philippines, its Diliman campus, De La Salle University, Ateneo de Manila University, and the University of Santo Tomas.

Alongside UP in stint to the Top 100 universities in South East Asia is its constituent UP Diliman in 28th, De La Salle University in 41st, Ateneo de Manila University in 66th, and University of Santo Tomas in the 89th spot. 

Only four constituent universities of the UP System made it to the country's Top 100 schools, which is unfortunately a decline of 3 from last year's results:

UP Visayas, 11th
UP Open University, 23rd
UP Cebu, 96th

DLSU Manila, the main campus for De La Salle Philippines (DLSP), came in third place with a world ranking of 1, 643 and an Asian Rank of 475. Six DLSP schools made it to the Top 100 list:

De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, 58th
DLSU-Dasmariñas, 63rd
University of St. La Salle Bacolod, 83rd
De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute, 91st

The Cybermetrics Lab, a research group of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) in Spain, says the ranking aims to promote publication of web content among educational institutions and support open access initiatives, electronic access to scientific publications, and to other academic material.
