Senator Christopher “Bong” Go on Thursday apologized to the public for mistakenly claiming that Lapulapu was a national hero from Mindanao and that he is a Tausug.

Go, adding he only based on the statement made by Abraham Ibarani-Idjirani and from a research done by his office staff.

Go said he has no intension of revising the country’s history and he respects it.

Go drew backlash from netizens as he said that Lapulapu is a Tausug during his speech at an event celebrating the 500 years of Mactan victory against Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan. However, several historians said there is no clear history on where Lapulapu came from.
