Davao Region (Region 11) dethroned nine-time champion CALABARZON (Region IV-A) to win the overall title at the National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) 2024 in Carcar City, Cebu on July 12.

This marks a shift in the dominance of the annual “Olympics of Campus Journalism” competition.

National Capital Region (NCR) placed second, followed by CALABARZON and Central Luzon (Region 3). Cagayan Valley (Region 2) rounded out the top five.

In the elementary division, the Davao Region (Region 11) dominated, followed by Cagayan Valley (Region 2), NCR, CALABARZON (Region IV-A), and Central Luzon (Region 3).

For the high school competition, CALABARZON (Region IV-A) emerged victorious, while Davao Region (Region 11) placed second, followed by NCR, MIMAROPA (Region IV-B), and Central Luzon (Region 3).

Group events

The Bicol Region (Region 5) dominated the elementary group competitions, followed by NCR, MIMAROPA, Central Luzon, and Region 1. 

MIMAROPA repeated their success in the secondary group events, with CALABARZON, NCR, Davao Region (Region 11), and Central Luzon close behind.

MIMAROPA excelled in Filipino Elementary Radio Broadcasting, while Region 5 triumphed in English. In the secondary division, Region 11 won the English category, while Region 10 secured the top spot in Filipino.

Region 2 claimed the championship title for Secondary English TV Script Writing and Broadcasting, while CALABARZON dominated the same event in Filipino. 

Region 8 and Region 5 were the top performers in Elementary English and Filipino Collaborative Desktop Publishing, respectively. Region 3 and Region IV-B emerged victorious in the secondary English and Filipino categories for the same event. 

NCR and Region IV-B secured the overall wins for Secondary English and Filipino Online Desktop Publishing, respectively.

Individual events

Region 11 shone brightest in the elementary individual categories, leaving regions like Region 2, CALABARZON (Region IV-A), National Capital Region, and Region 3 in its wake.

This dominance continued in the secondary individual events, with Region 11 once again securing the top spot, followed by National Capital Region, CALABARZON, Region 3, and Region 2.

Jasmine Mikayla Angela (CAR) ruled News Writing at the elementary level, while Liam Drake Amoroso (Region IV-A) triumphed in Pagsulat ng Balita. In the secondary division, Chelsea Avjay Arias (Region 11) bagged the championship for News Writing, followed by Ronnel Ambrosio (NCR), who dominated Pagsulat ng Balita.

Jeph Azriel Buniel (CARAGA) emerged as the best Feature Writer at the elementary level, while Janelle Maisie Bordador (Region 10) mirrored this success in Pagsulat ng Lathalain. The secondary division saw Jelena Jesu Villorente (Region 11) claim the top spot for Feature Writing, while Rowan Lorenz Yllixa Alagos (Region 12) conquered Pagsulat ng Lathalain.

Steffany Lorraine Caunca (Region IV-A) and Hazel Mae Feo (Region 6) dominated Editorial Writing and  Pagsulat ng Editoryal in the elementary category, respectively. Jarod Dilla (Region IV-A) continued this streak in the secondary level for Editorial Writing, while Lester Sibaen (CAR) secured the win in Pagsulat ng Editoryal.

Yohann Nilo Udtohan (Region 8) and Vhic Xymon Teves (Region 5) impressed in elementary Column Writing and Pagsulat ng Kolum. James Benedict Tan (Region 2) followed suit in the secondary level for Column Writing, with Resty Birth Lazarte (Region 7) leading Pagsulat ng Kolum.

The elementary division for Science and Technology Writing was aced by Kleanna Lujille Ocampo (Region 6) and Clyrefeiel Villanueva (Region 9) for Pagsulat ng Agham. Ashriel Joshia Liagao (CAR) took the crown in the secondary level for Science and Technology Writing, while Rosemarie Oliver (CALABARZON) triumphed in Pagsulat ng Agham.

Mikhaella Jeiana Genita (Region 7) excelled in elementary-level sports writing in English, while Loraine Mae Alvarez (Region 1) led in Pagsulat ng Balitang Pampalakasan. In the secondary level, Jaspher Miko Aspiras (CALABARZON) claimed victory in the English category, and Lance Harvey Rosario (Region 2) triumphed in the Pagsulat ng Balitang Pampalakasan category.

Dirk Juran Clifford Torres (Region 3) and Xaniel Agageo (CAR) showcased their skills in elementary Copyreading and Headline Writing and Pagwawasto at Pag-uulo ng Sipi, respectively. Angel Mae Precillas (CALABARZON) mirrored this feat in the secondary division of the same event in English medium, and Jon Frank Phillip Leray (Region 11) for the Filipino medium.

Deomar Heavenson Apilado (Region 2) captured the elementary Photojournalism title, while Jennah Mae Aireen Otis (Region IV-A) replicated this achievement in Pagkuha ng Larawang Pampahayagan. Zoe Elisha Balaqui (CARAGA) and Mafeyy Glare Alfarero (Region 11) mirrored their success in the secondary level for Photojournalism and Pagkuha ng Larawang Pampahayagan, respectively.

Trever Andre Zachary Luza (Region 10) impressed the judges in elementary Editorial Cartooning, and Jairah Clint Ramos (Region 12) followed suit in Paglalarawang Tudling. The secondary division saw Ram Christian Lapuz (Region 3) conquer Editorial Cartooning, while Mark Justin Davis Ymana (Region 1) secured the top spot in Paglalarawang Tudling.

School paper winners

In the elementary school paper competition, young journalists from the National Capital Region (NCR) and CALABARZON region emerged victorious. 

The Paradigm, the publication of Placido Del Mundo Elementary School (NCR), secured the top spot for the English category. Meanwhile, Ang Dayo, the publication of Southville IV Elementary School (CALABARZON), triumphed in the Filipino category.

Regional science high schools showcased their journalistic prowess at the secondary level.
 
Nudo Veritas, the publication of Gusa Regional Science High School (Region 10), clinched the overall championship for English publications. Meanwhile, Philippine Science High School - Southern Mindanao Campus (Region 11) dominated the Filipino category with their publication, Bagwis Agham.
