Seventh Martial Law Commemoration of the 1081 Exhibit: The Youth as the Mobilizers towards Remembering, Revealing, and Resisting!
The University of the Philippines Cebu, UP Cebu Communication Program, UP Cebu, Martial Law Day of Remembrance (MLDR) Committee, and the Communicators of UP are inviting you to cover the seventh annual 1081 Exhibit happening this September 19-22, 2024 at the University of the Philippines Cebu.
1081 Exhibit is an annual commemorative event for victims of state violence during Ferdinand Marcos Sr.’s regime.
For the 52nd anniversary of the 1081 Proclamation, this year’s exhibit banners the theme: “Tagubtob sa Kamatuoran: Remember, Reveal, Resist” which centers on the loud past of the Philippine’s history under the Marcos Sr. regime that is in dire need of being remembered, of revealing its truth, and of resisting the current history revisionism under the return of the Dictator’s son as the Philippine President.
We mobilize the youth, especially the Senior High and College Students, Student Leaders, Student Activists, and Campus Journalists of Cebu City, to amplify to their different communities our calls. To REMEMBER (Paghandom) through commemorating and honoring the lives of all the Martial Law victims. To REVEAL (Pagmatngon) the authentic realities and cruel occurrences of the Marcos Sr. regime through fact-checking and mass communication of real information. To RESIST (Pagbatok) to the return of the Marcos administration in our country today by courageously rallying our calls and by using journalism and new media as outlets for resistance.
In line with this, we are doing a Multimedia & Art Exhibit at the UP Cebu Museum of Culture and the Arts (Administration Building) on September 19-21, 2024 featuring various works of our local artists.
On the Opening Program, September 19; 9 AM at the UP Cebu Administration Building, the UP Students' Theater Arts Guild for Education (UPSTAGE) will give performances and special messages from organizers and partners, and after the program, students of UP Cebu and other members of the youth will launch a Lightning Rally Protest action.
For the first time, the 1081 Exhibit will be holding a Radio Talk on September 19-20, 2024, in partnership with DYUP Sugbo of UP Cebu featuring representatives from the youth sector and DYUP Sugbo. The coverage will be accessed via Facebook Live and the campus radio station. Another pioneering stride is using a new platform, TikTok, in uploading short Educational Video Postings that will feature fact-checking content on the Martial Law era. These content shall also be posted in Facebook and Instagram to widen the audience’s reach.
Further, in partnership with Lawak Sinehan, we are also organizing a free Film Showing on films, documentaries, and short videos about Martial Law for free on September 19-20, 2024 at the Lawak Sinehan in UP Cebu.
In order to strengthen the goal of revealing the truth, we are doing an Pagpakisayod sa Kamatuoran: Ang Sugilanon Mahitungod sa Batas Militar (Educational Discussion) at the Arts and Sciences Hall UP Cebu on September 20, 2024 open for all audiences. In partnership with the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines, we are conducting a free WPagbansay: A Workshop on Ethical Journalism. In the evening, we are gathering for a Cultural Night Paghandom: A Night of Commemoration at the UP Cebu Sunset Garden that will feature different forms of protest of dancing by UP Sayaw Evolution, spoken poetry by Tinta - UP Cebu, and a commemorative rally with our different partners. The night shall end with a candle-lighting ceremony to honor and pray for the lives taken by the Marcos Sr. authoritarianism.
On the day of the proclamation of 1081, we commemorate the victims of state violence in the Marcos authoritarian regime through a Multi-sectoral Mass Mobilization at the Downtown Cebu City area on September 21, 2024 morning.
