“It's still, for me, nerve-racking to run for a national position. ‘Di ko alam kung mentally, I'm ready to run for a position that is national kasi I prefer to be very private. But that's not going to happen,” Binay said when asked for a reply to Senator Nancy Binay's statement that she is ready for a seat in the Senate.
If she were to win the elections, Binay is eyeing to file a bill in the Senate to amend the Local Government Code of the country.
She believes the current Local Government Code is outdated, prompting the need for an amendment to ensure there is a sense of accountability and good governance even at the barangay level.
Binay also seeks to write a bill to help barangays gain access to funding for their climate actions.
“We have to be resilient, kasi hindi mawawala ang bagyo, hindi mawawala ang disaster, and yet it seems we are always caught flat-footed in terms of disaster preparedness,” Binay reiterated on the importance of disaster resiliency.
The Makati mayor is running in the 2025 elections for a Senate bid under the Nationalist People's Coalition.
Binay was part of the House of Representatives from 2007 until 2016 when she won as the city mayor of Makati and is now term-limited.
