Vice President Sara Duterte bared the reason in a press release on Oct. 18 why she ran for the position during the 2022 election - to help President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. win against former vice president Leni Robredo.

According to her, Senator Imee Marcos asked her to be Bongbong’s running-mate so that they would have strong support from the Visayas.

"Kasi matatalo kami ni Leni if di namin madala ang Bisaya," Duterte quoted Sen. Marcos’ words to her when she asked her to run.

Duterte added that it’s all about winning

The Vice President also said that she didn’t want to run for the presidency because she wanted to finish her term as Davao City mayor.

She also added that her father - former president Rodrigo Duterte, never asked her to run because he doesn’t want her to follow his difficult job as president.

Duterte also stated that she doesn't have regrets running for vice president.

“Sabi ko okay lang sa akin tumakbo na VP. Number 1, ma-reduce ang disappointment ng tao sa hindi ko pagtakbo as president. Ito na lang i-offer ko sa kanila,” she said in the press release.

‘Vs. Bongbong’

Duterte also accused President Bongbong Marcos of not knowing how to rule a country.

"Hindi marunong maging Presidente ang nakaupo, kasalanan ko ba iyon?” she said in the press release.

The Vice President also stated that she resigned as DepEd Secretary because she didn’t like what she was seeing and hearing.

"Kung presidente ninyo siya, okay lang. Ako, hanggang Number Two lang itong bansa na ito, wala itong Number 1 para sa akin,” she added.

When asked to rate Marcos’ performance, Duterte said that she would only give one out of 10 because he doesn’t have plans for food security and inflation.

“I don't ever remember may plataporma siya. I don't ever remember him discussing kung anong gagawin sa problema ngayon,” she said the reason in the press release.

Duterte said that she has five impeachable offenses of BBM but doubts if it will pass the House.

The vice president also mentioned the “toxic” environment with the president and stated that she only tolerated it and focused on her job.

Duterte also bared allegations that House Speaker Martin Romualdez engaged in bribery with a foreign national during the campaign period.

“May red flag din yang si Martin. Magkatabi kami sa airplane nung kampanya. May nakita ako from another country na tumanggap ng suhol,” she said in the press release.

She said that the action was an embarrassment because the speaker received a bribe.

Duterte also revealed that Romualdez is eyeing for the presidency.
