After a five-year hiatus, the highly anticipated UP Cebu Cookout is set to make its return this November 9-10, 2024 at the University of the Philippines Cebu, with the theme “LAWOD 2024: Banwag sa kangitngit, pagdawat sa hagit!,” symbolizing the vast and unpredictable depths of the sea, an evocative metaphor for the voices of resistance continuing to drown in the depths of the calm oceans.

The UP Cookout, first held in 1982 during the Marcos Sr. dictatorship, began as a powerful act of student-led resistance against political repression. Over the decades, it has evolved into a dynamic platform where the intersection of culture, art, and activism thrives. This year, the Cookout will run from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, filling the night with performances, art exhibits, discussions, and creative expressions aimed at fostering dialogue on critical societal issues.

Above all, UP Cookout 2024 supports the beneficiaries from KARAPATAN - Central Visayas Chapter in their efforts to uphold human rights, justice, and the freedom of political prisoners. With free admission for all UP Cebu Students and tickets for Non-UP Students at Php 100 for pre-order and Php 150 for walk-ins, 5% of the proceeds will go to the event’s beneficiary to support the cause of Karapatan - CV. As a core for socio-political discourse, the Cookout remains deeply rooted in its origins, where protest, expression, and activism intertwine to reflect the realities of contemporary society. True to tradition, various student organizations will participate, presenting performances and exhibits that highlight pressing concerns. The event is known for its inclusive and vibrant atmosphere, welcoming students and the broader Cebu community to engage in thoughtful conversations and creative collaboration.

Participants can expect a full spectrum of thought-provoking and innovative activities, from live music and performances to art exhibits and educational discussions. Each represents a call to action on matters that resonate deeply with
today's society. With LAWOD 2024, the UP Cebu community reaffirms its commitment to using culture and the arts as powerful tools for protest, empowerment, and social change.

Ali, salmot kita ug mamahimong dakong LAWOD sa paglumos sa pasismo ug
imperyalismo sa atoang nasod!
