This was after an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) was reportedly involved in the death of a child in her employer’s household, the Philippine Embassy said on Friday.

According to Gulf News and Arab News, the OFW allegedly placed the child in the washing machine out of frustration by disturbing her.

The embassy extended their condolences and prayers to the bereaved family in a statement posted on their Facebook page.

“The embassy is cooperating with Kuwaiti authorities investigating the incident and is also providing assistance to the detained Filipino domestic worker, within the framework of Kuwaiti law and in keeping the Embassy’s mandate,” they added.

Government agency DMW expressed concern about the incident and sent their condolences to both the child’s family and the Kuwaiti government.

Both DMW and the embassy shared similar thoughts that the case does not reflect the values and character of Filipinos and its OFWs, which are known to be hard working and caring.

Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Eduardo De Vega said the OFW is from Alcala, Cagayan and has been in Kuwait nearly a decade, since 2015.

The embassy has yet to talk to the alleged suspect as she is still under police custody, De Vega confirmed.
