For the second time, the University of the Philippines (UP) secured its title as top-performing Philippine university and placed 300th worldwide in terms of sustainability at the third Quacquarelli-Symonds (QS) World University Sustainability Rankings.

However, UP ranked lower this year from its 231st place on the last edition, receiving an overall score of 70 out of 100. 

In terms of environmental education, it received the highest score of 88.3 while having the lowest score of 42.3 on environmental sustainability. 

UP had the topmost score of 90.6 on knowledge exchange in terms of social impact, and 77.9 on good governance. 

Four other universities garnered its spot on the QS World Sustainability Rankings, with Ateneo de Manila University climbing the rankings from 593rd last year to 503rd. 

De La Salle University improved its ranking by placing from 981-1,000 last year up to 911-920. Also, Mapua University ranked higher this year from last year’s 1,201+ placement to 1,141-1,160 bracket. 

Meanwhile, University of Santo Tomas (UST) went down with its ranking from last year’s 1,001 -1,050 bracket to 1,041-1,060. 

The QS rankings measures an institution’s ability to tackle the world’s greatest environmental, social, and governance (ESG) challenges and it features 1,800 universities globally.
