The initiative was emphasized during the 12th meeting of the Philippine Qualifications Framework National Coordinating Council (PQF-NCC) at the Bulwagan ng Karunungan in Manila.
“This strategy underscores our dedication to developing a workforce that can adapt to global standards and contribute significantly to priority sectors,” said Education Secretary Sonny Angara.
The PQF aims to ensure that Filipino workers' skills align with national and international job markets, facilitating a smoother transition between education and labor sectors and enhancing workforce competitiveness.
A technical working group (TWG) will identify priority industries such as semiconductors, manufacturing, tourism, maritime, agriculture, and entrepreneurship by collaborating with private sector stakeholders.
“By focusing on these sectors, we are aligning education with economic opportunities, ensuring our youth are ready for the challenges of the future,” Angara added.
DepEd has committed to simplifying the PQF to ensure it is accessible and practical for stakeholders at all levels.
In collaboration with the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP), DepEd is establishing a permanent secretariat for ongoing operations, which will be led by an executive director at the Undersecretary level.
“The secretariat will ensure effective implementation of PQF objectives and provide long-term support to stakeholders,” said DAP Vice President Arnel Abanto.
The meeting was attended by representatives from PQF-NCC member agencies: the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).
Additional measures involve training programs in digital literacy and partnerships with TESDA for certifications, aligning education with industry needs.
To adapt to technological and economic changes, this initiative aims to cultivate a workforce that can compete globally, aligning with DepEd's broader vision of preparing Filipino learners.
