The Malacañang Palace stated on April 8 that it will provide assistance to those who are affected by the recent Mount Kanlaon Eruption.

Palace Press Officer Underecretary Atty. Claire Castro stated in a press briefing that the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will cooperate with the local government units on donating food packs and other relief goods to families affected by the eruption. 

"Ngayon po, patuloy pa rin po ang binibigyan ng serbisyo ayon na rin sa direktiba ng ating Pangulo,” Castro said regarding between the cooperation of DSWD and LGUs. 

She also added that field offices in Western and Central Visayas are closely coordinating with affected local government units. 

“Ang DSWD po ay sa ngayon po ha, ngayong April 8 ay sinabi po na ang field offices po sa Western and Central Visayas ay closely coordinating po sa mga affected local government units at patuloy pa rin po ang pagbibigay ng mga provisions o family food packs and non-food items sa ating mga kababayan na naaapektuhan,” Castro stated. 

DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian mentioned that over 250, 000 boxes of families were prepared at DSWD's Field Office (FO) in Central Visayas and Western Visayas. 

He also mentioned that field offices are closely coordinating with affected local government units. 

“As I speak, our Field Offices in Western and Central Visayas are closely coordinating with affected local government units so we can get real-time updates on the status of affected families, and their need for more provisions of family food packs and non-food items,” Gatchallian stated in an interview regarding on coordination with local government units. 

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLOCS) released a notice that Kanlaon Volcano remains under alert level 3. 

The recent eruption made at least 2,612 families stay in evacuation centers of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental.
