Meta debuts its new AI assistant app, joining the ranks of AI software giants in the tech industry.
On April 29 (April 30 in Manila), Meta CEO and Founder Mark Zuckerberg announced the release of Meta AI as a standalone app on Instagram.
Previously integrated into apps like Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp, the company accounted for the continuous growth of users using Meta AI.
This prompted the creation of the app, which can now be installed on iOS and Android devices and accessed via the web without needing to run another Meta platform.
Meta’s continuous push into artificial intelligence has been evident in recent years.
In 2023, the company began its journey with AI assistants through the initial release of Meta AI inside its existing apps.
A year later, Meta AI partially replaced the apps’ search bar, making the bot more accessible to users.
The new app, built with Meta’s latest AI model, Llama 4, also features a “Discover” feed, allowing users to share and explore how others use the AI assistant.
“You can share your prompts. You can share your art. It’s super fun,” Zuckerberg said.
Meta AI is now also integrated into RayBan Meta glasses.
The app is now merged with the Meta View companion app for the glasses, allowing users to access the software while away from their phones.
For now, the app is only available in select countries such as the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
Even so, Meta’s aim for success in AI is not a race it is running alone. The company has been consistently developing across different tech fronts.
From developing the Metaverse to revolutionizing social media with its multiple platforms, Meta continues to expand its presence in the industry.
With the release of Meta AI, Meta enters the competition as a new contender in a field long dominated by other AI pioneers.
