CARAGA bags first-ever NSPC 2025 championship; ends Davao’s back-to-back bid

CARAGA has claimed the overall championship title at the National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) 2025 held in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, from May 19 to 23, marking its first-ever win in the prestigious campus journalism event.
This victory ends the long-standing dominance of previous champions, signaling a fresh shift in the competitive landscape of the NSPC.
MIMAROPA (Region IV-B) placed second overall, followed by CALABARZON (Region IV-A), Davao Region (Region XI), and National Capital Region (NCR), completing the top five.
In the elementary division, Bicol Region (Region V) led the rankings, followed by Central Luzon (Region III), Region IV-B, Central Visayas (Region VII), and Region XI.
CARAGA also emerged on top for the secondary division, with Regions IV-A, IV-B, XI, and NCR trailing close behind.
Group events
Region III dominated the elementary group competitions, followed by Regions V, IV-B, VII, and IV-A.
In the secondary group events, Region XI claimed the top spot, followed by Regions IV-A, CARAGA, III, and NCR.
For the specific categories, Ilocos Region (Region I) led in Filipino Elementary Radio Scriptwriting and Broadcasting, while Region XI excelled in the English category. CARAGA both topped the secondary English and Filipino category.
As for Mobile Journalism, Region VII won in the English category while Zamboanga Peninsula (Region IX) triumphed in Filipino.
Region IV-A won the championship in Secondary English TV Script Writing and Broadcasting, while Region IV-A led the Filipino category.
Region V was the top performer in Elementary English Collaborative Desktop Publishing, while Region V led in Filipino. In the secondary division, Region VII won in English, and Region IV-B in Filipino.
NCR and Region IV-B claimed the overall wins for Secondary English and Filipino Online Desktop Publishing, respectively.
Individual events
Region XI emerged as the top performer in the elementary individual categories, followed by Regions V, I, NCR, and III.
In the secondary division, CARAGA led the competition, trailed by Regions IV-B, IV-A, V, and NCR.
In the elementary level, Sharnette Mingat from CAR ruled News Writing, while Irech Franzia Maie Bayug of Region XI triumphed in Pagsulat ng Balita. At the secondary level, Faith Caitlin Ng from NCR led the English category, with Janelle Rimalos of Region I emerging victorious in the Filipino counterpart.
Elementary winners were Mathea Lyf Aire Elorde from Northern Mindanao (Region X) for Feature Writing and Daiane Dupa of Cagayan Valley (Region II) for Pagsulat ng Lathalain. In the secondary division, Hirah Marielle Ebalan of Western Visayas (Region VI) took the English title, while Joshua Pasion from Region II claimed the Filipino category.
The elementary category was topped by Audree Beatrix Castilla from Region X for Editorial Writing and Ma. Antonette Bellen of Region V for Pagsulat ng Editoryal. In high school, Jhon Raymund Paras from Region III emerged champion in the English category, while Claudia Callano of CARAGA led the Filipino counterpart.
In the elementary division, Sofia Antonio of SOCCSKSARGEN (Region XII) took the top spot in Column Writing, with Cheska Taguiam from Region VII winning in Pagsulat ng Kolum. Secondary champions were John Ashton Javier from Region V for English and Selwyn Kerby Musni from Region IV-A for Filipino.
Elementary winners are Jeremiah Madayag of Region V for Science and Technology Writing and Kim Andrea Sajulan from CARAGA for Pagsulat ng Artikulong Agham at Teknolohiya. At the secondary level, Audly Lorenzo Aban from Region IV-B reigned in English, while Ronald Chewachew of CAR bested the Filipino category.
In elementary, Isabelle Ardaniel from Region XI led Sports Writing in English, while Gene Wade Rivas of Region XI excelled in Pagsulat ng Balitang Pampalakasan. For the secondary level, John Kyle Jovie Bonoan from Eastern Visayas (Region VIII) claimed the English title, and Justine Beaver Cabrera of Region V triumphed in the Filipino event.
Elementary honors went to Vinzrich M. Demandante of CARAGA for Copyreading and Headline Writing, and Aliana Tandas from Region I for Pagwawasto ng Sipi at Pag-uulo ng Balita. In high school, Isaiah Matthew Hilario from Region III topped the English category, while Sheila Mei Broncano of Region V led in Filipino.
In the elementary division, Angela Surdilla of NCR emerged champion in Photojournalism, with Akea Salazar from Region VI winning in Pagkuha ng Larawang Pampahayagan. Secondary titles went to Jhason James Rosel from Region VII for English and Francis Prince Bangod of Region X for Filipino.
Elementary winners were Lorraine Mae Mangubat of Region VII in Editorial Cartooning and Messiah Kal-el Fineza from Region IV-A in Pagguhit ng Kartung Pang-Editoryal. At the secondary level, Denlee Rui Egaran from Region XII prevailed in English, while Vincent Japson of Region IV-A secured the Filipino crown.
School paper winners
In the elementary school paper competition, young journalists from Region X and CARAGA emerged victorious.
Tuburan, the publication of Tubod Central Elementary School (Region X), secured the top spot in the English category. Meanwhile, Lambigit, the publication of Bislig City Division Special Educational Center (CARAGA), triumphed in the Filipino category.
At the secondary level, campus journalists from Region XI and Region IX showed their prowess in their papers.
Campus Glimpse, the publication of Francisco Bangoy National High School (Region XI), clinched the overall championship for the English category. Meanwhile, Ang Bagong Pananaw, the publication of Jose Rizal Memorial State University (Region IX), dominated the Filipino category.
