The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) is set to have an enhanced free WiFi connectivity even inside moving trains as the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) began its technical assessment to plan for the said installation.
In a press release on May 6, DICT said that their teams under the Free WiFi for All program are working hand-in-hand with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to quickly roll out the free connection in the MRT-3 to serve the thousands of commuters riding the train.
“With free internet access, commuters can stay in touch with loved ones, catch the latest news, stream entertainment, or access government platforms like the eGovPH app, making every ride more meaningful,” the press release read.
DICT Secretary Henry Aguda also expressed his optimism towards the initiative to build a more connected community.
“Connectivity should follow the people, not just to help them earn or learn, but to help them live. Every ride is an opportunity to stay informed, entertained, and connected,” he said.
Aguda had announced in a statement last April 22 the plans to enhance the free WiFi in MRT-3 where he vowed to have the initial improvements be felt by the public within the month of May.
DICT has not yet stated the eyed completion date for the free WiFi project, but guaranteed a continuous action within the agency and the DOTr.
The project is said to be the initiative of President Ferdinand Marcos to make commuting more efficient for Filipinos.
