In a move aimed at ensuring the company’s media content production amid “challenges,” The Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI) will be shifting its ownership of print operations to its sister company, Inquirer Interactive Incorporated, according to an official statement released on May 2.

Inquirer Interactive Incorporated, the company managing the Inquirer.net website, will assume ownership of the newspaper publication starting July 1.

“Following a thorough review of its challenges, the Board of Directors had determined that this shift is the best strategy to ensure that the INQUIRER remains the leading source of news and content for Filipinos here and abroad,” PDI announced.

PDI believes that this move will “reinforce the INQUIRER’s enduring legacy and create new opportunities to engage Filipinos regardless of their reading habits.”

“By leveraging the combined reach of the newspaper’s subscriber base and the growing 27 million monthly page visits of Inquirer.net, the INQUIRER would be able to expand its ability to connect to a broader audience across all media platforms,” PDI explained.

PDI’s board of directors ensures “severance or separation benefits for all [affected employees] that may be due them under the law or the collective bargaining agreement with the PDI Employees Union.”

Likewise, several members of PDI’s editorial team were offered to join in managing the multimedia platforms to continue upholding the company’s editorial standards.

PDI was first established in 1985 as a weekly newspaper provider for Filipinos during the reign of former Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
