President Rodrigo Duterte invited former Senator Juan Ponce Enrile for a talk about territorial conflicts with China.

He said he invited Enrile to attend a Cabinet meeting and he is hopeful that the former senator will accept his invitation.

“We have respectfully invited Senator Enrile to come here kasi hindi naman ako puwedeng makalabas na mag-usap. Pakinggan natin siya. Hindi na ako magsalita. Makikinig lang ako sa kanya,” Duterte said on Friday.

The President also added he will listen to Enrile as he believes in the former senator's intellect and understanding on issues related to the sea row.

Enrile earlier lauded the administration's peaceful approach on solving the territorial conflict with China.

Recently, Duterte's alleged soft approach on the West Philippine Sea conflict earned criticisms after saying that the country owes China a "huge debt of gratitude."

Duterte later assured that he will not compromise the country's rights to the WPS, as well as the country's sovereignty.
