For Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel, boxer-turned-senator Manny Pacquiao will “for sure” be nominated by his faction as presidential candidate for the upcoming 2022 national elections.

Interviewed by newspaper and media outlet Philippine Daily Inquirer, Pimentel said that there are consultations ongoing and that Pacquiao is the favorable presidentiable by the majority.

“Someone will for sure nominate him (Pacquiao) and then the Comelec (Commission on Election) will ask if he accepts the nomination. We still have to wait for his answer,” Pimentel said, when asked if their wing plans to nominate a candidate to run for president during their national assembly in September.

Earlier, the other party faction led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi endorsed Senator Bong Go and President Rodrigo Duterte tandem for the 2022 elections as president and vice president, respectively.

On Tuesday, the Cusi-led wing broadcasted that Duterte has accepted to run for the vice presidency.

Meanwhile, Go said he is “still not interested” in gunning for the country’s highest position.

Moreover, in an interview with GMA’s DZBB, Pimentel said his party will choose who will run as president first before picking vice president and senatorial picks, of which the Cusi faction did otherwise.

“Iba yung pamamaraan namin, yun yung mas common. Unahin namin ang pag-determine ng presidential candidate…Ang pagpili ng vice president, at saka yung mga senador ipasa niyo na sa presidential candidate,” Pimentel pointed out.
