Vice President Leni Robredo firmly believes that if Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. is elected president in the upcoming elections, the country would return to the days of his father's dictatorship.

During the DZBB presidential interview “Ikaw na ba?” on Monday, January 31, Robredo clarified what she was trying to say when she stated she would run for president to prevent the Marcoses from regaining power.

“Ito kasi ‘yung dahilan kung bakit sinabi ko ‘to: everything that they represent. Alam natin ‘yung pinanggalingan natin during the dictatorship. Alam natin ‘yung sobrang korapsyon. Alam natin ‘yung sobrang misgovernance. Alam natin ‘yung klase ng pulitika na inumpisahan,” Robredo said.

She said that once Marcoses returns to position, people should expect the same experiences from the dictatorship and ask if they want it.

Robredo also stressed that this election is not about who is better than the other but about the style of governance they represent and can provide.

“Ito ‘yung magdedetermine ng next six years para sa ating bansa. So iyon ‘yung paniniwala ko na ‘pag bumoboto tayo sa isang tao, hindi lang ‘yon kung sa akin o kay Marcos, pero kung anong klase ng pulitika saka pamamahala na inooffer nila sa taumbayan.” she said.

In a Pulse Asia survey conducted on December 2021, Marcos was the top choice for president with 53% of the votes, followed by Robredo with 20%.
