Former Vice President Leni Robredo secured a historic victory in Naga City, becoming the city’s first female mayor.
As of 1:18 p.m. on May 13, Robredo clinched a landslide victory in the city, garnering 84,377 votes, accounting for 91.6% of the total ballots cast.
Her closest rival, independent candidate Toots De Quiros, received only 5,026 votes, while Louie Ortega and Ganda Abrazado followed with 717 and 597 votes, respectively.
The victory marked Robredo’s political comeback and return to local governance after her failed 2022 presidential bid.
She has previously served as Camarines Sur’s 3rd District representative and later as the country’s vice president from 2016 to 2022.
In this year’s midterm election, Robredo ran under the Liberal Party, advocating for integrity, transparency, and community participation back to local leadership.
After casting her vote during the poll, Robredo emphasized the need to strengthen institutions that uphold accountability and deepen citizen involvement in city affairs.
“We will strengthen mechanisms for good governance, particularly in transparency, accountability, and people empowerment to give heart and soul to our programs,” she said.
Robredo then added that the city’s People’s Council could also be revived to reflect the voices and needs of ordinary citizens better.
She also expressed deep faith in the potential of Naga’s youth, promising to give them greater opportunities to take part in shaping local policies.
“We just need to give them space to participate in government activities,” Robredo stated.
Following her proclamation as the mayor, Robredo thanked the people of Naga for the overwhelming support and for allowing her to serve again.
“Thank you very much, my fellow Nagueños, for the big win -84,259 votes equivalent to 91.6% of those who voted. Thank you also for your support to An Bagong Team Naga!!,” she wrote on Facebook.
She also acknowledged the generally peaceful conduct of the elections despite minor technical glitches.
Robredo is set to assume office with a strong electoral mandate, signaling a new chapter in Naga’s local governance rooted in her brand of people-centered leadership.
