The national contingent will participate in 10 sporting events: athletics, archery, badminton, men’s basketball, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, swimming, table tennis, tennis, and men’s indoor volleyball.
The Games are expected to gather over 8,000 student-athletes from more than 150 countries.
Among the confirmed participants is Mark Mahinay of the University of Cebu, who will make history as the first Cebuano runner to join the Games. Mahinay, a silver medalist in the men’s 10,000-meter run at the 2023 ASEAN University Games, is supported by Dr. Gerry Mayo, through the Mayo Kidney Clinic, Sto. Niño Dialysis, and Healing Hands Dialysis Centers.
Mahinay will be joined by UC’s table tennis team Andrie Caballes, Rafael David Misa, Kristienne Kaye Alicaya, and Allana Felize Salar—under head coach and UC Athletics Director Jessica Honoridez.
Roy C. Laudit, a track athlete from University of the Philippines and native of Sorsogon, is also part of the delegation.
Top athletic programs from Mapua University (NCAA basketball) and National University (UAAP men’s volleyball) are also among those fielding athletes, alongside representatives from over 20 other schools across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. These include state universities, private colleges, and maritime institutions.
“Qualifying for the top 16 teams in the World University Games is a remarkable achievement—on par with reaching the Olympics,” said FESSAP president Edwin C. Fabro.
He also acknowledged that the athletes’ focused preparation and strong support have been made possible through the steadfast leadership of Mary G. Ng, President of the Philippine Inter-School Sport Association (PISSA) and head of the delegation, along with Frank Lao, who serves as the Philippine deputy head.
Thanks to their consistent backing, FESSAP has been able to expand its programs and international partnerships, underscoring its commitment to showcasing Philippine university sports worldwide.
FESSAP is confident that the Philippine team will demonstrate outstanding performance, fair play, and unwavering determination in the international arena.
