The full authorization of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine in the United States will fast-track the process of Philippine regulators of allowing the jab for commercial use in the country, said Malacañang.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque explained that the process will be faster once the full approval by the U.S. FDA for Pfizer-BioNTech applied in the Philippines.

In a press briefing, Roque said that while the commercial use approval of the Philippine FDA is still needed, the Philippine FDA’s policy will be hastened due to quickly approving commercial use of vaccines and medicines that are already secured for approval by a “stringent” regulator like the U.S. FDA.

Having emergency use authorization (EUA) on Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccines, it is clear that only the national government can only buy the said product with an EUA and cannot be sold commercially in the Philippines.
