In a case of mistaken identity, a construction worker was shot dead by a police officer following a robbery-holdup suspect in Sta. Rita, Pampanga, Saturday night.

The investigation identified the victim as Federico Pineda,29, who happened to show resemblance from the descriptions of the supposedly target who robbed a pisonet shop and stabbed its owners.

A dragnet operation was being done in the area of the incident when Pineda suddenly showed up with similarities to the target making the cop mistakenly thought is was him, said Sta. Rita Police chief Capt. Renemer James Pornia.

“During po ng dragnet operation, bigla pong sumulpot dun po sa area malapit po sa incident na same description po nung suspek po natin, so ang nangyari po, finlagdown siya however, nag-evade po siya at dinisregard po niya yung patrol officer po natin. Nagkahabulan po sila, and while 'yung patrolman po natin is nasa motorcycle po, when he drew his firearm, accidentally po nakalabit niya, yung victim po natin is tinamaan," Pornia said.

According to the investigation, Pineda, who wears a white sando similar to the target, was taking a drunk uncle home near the cockpit arena, where the suspect allegedly went, from the birthday party of his child.

Moreover, Gov. Dennis Pineda ordered to disarm and do a criminal and administrative proceedings against Cpl. Eframe Ramirez.

The mourning family of Pineda expressed their grievance for the loss of Pineda.

"Pilit po naming tinatanggap pero talagang masakit po para po para sa amin, kasi wala naman kaming alam na ginawang kasalanan ng kapatid ko ang liit pa ng mga anak niya...sana bago siya gumawa mg hakbang o bago siya bumaril, sana kahit sa paa nalang o kaya yung motor nalang niya yung binaril pinuruhan niya eh," said Michelle Pagauisan, victim's sibling.

Furthermore, the robber was already arrested and the money was seized. He is now facing robbery and frustrated homicide.
