For President Rodrigo Duterte, the government’s COVID-19 response was doing well compared to other countries, and Health Secretary Francisco Duque III is the “hero.”

During his weekly public address, Duterte made the statement as Duque presented the current Philippines’ COVID-19 situationer.

"Compared with other countries, which is not really the time to do comparisons, but we are doing good in the fight against COVID and Secretary Duque is the hero here," Duterte said.

"Pero ang rate ng recovery tingnan naman ninyo, ang cases with final outcome is 992,759. Ang recoveries ay 975,234," Duterte added.

The Department of Health on Monday reported 7,255 new COVID-19 infections. By the numbers, 2,402 are from National Capital Region, 1,419 from CALABARZON, 839 from Central Luzon, and 2,595 from other regions.

Duque noted that the country’s daily average cases decreased to 8,227 compared to 8,782 from April 19 to April 25.

Meanwhile, the NCR’s average daily attack rate from April 18 to May 1 fell to 25 cases per a hundred thousand population compared to that of 34 cases per a hundred thousand population from April 4 to April 17.
