President Rodrigo Duterte gave advice to those who will run as the next president in the upcoming May 2022 election to “face the Lord first” before deciding to run.
“To those who would aspire for it, you should face the Lord first and ask, ‘Ibibigay mo ba ito sa akin?' ” he said during the national convention of PDP-Laban on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021
When he recalled his experience last 2016 of which he ran as president and won he was convinced that the presidency was a “gift of God.”
“Ni wala akong isang barangay captain dito sa Luzon. In the Visayas, in Cebu, where my father was a native, doon mismo wala maski isang kagawad. And yet, yun na nga, I won,” he shared.
In contrary to his past controversial claims over calling God "stupid" himself being a Catholic, later clarifying his remark as deriding the God of his critics and that he has his own "perfect" God who "makes sense".
"Now tell me if it is a perfect God. I will kneel down, stretch my hand, and ask for forgiveness. Tell me if it is a very poignant story of the history of mankind or it is really a stupid one," said the president back in June 25, 2018.
