In his weekly Talk to the People, President Rodrigo Duterte encouraged the public to opt for “ordinary Filipinos” rather than smart candidates during the 2022 National Elections.

“Maghanap kayo ng kandidato na ordinaryong Filipino. Bigyan ninyo ng panahon at ipakita niya,” Duterte said.

Duterte made the statements after Senator Richard Gordon urged the public to snub government officials involved in the Pharmally issue in the upcoming polls.

Duterte also endorsed Senator Bong Go as vice president, and said that he believes that Go “is the best person to help the next president to continue his legacy.”

“I encourage our kababayans to look at his deeds and achievements as you consider your list of candidates for the next president, vice president rather,” he added.

As Duterte accompanied Go to file his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for vice presidency, he announced his retirement from politics, and supported Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte as president alongside Go with her vice president.
