Businesses in areas under Alert Levels 1 to 3 have the option to require face shield use of employees and customers, according to acting presidential and task force spokesperson Karlo Nograles on Thursday, November 18.

“It is hereby clarified that the same is without prejudice to employers still requiring their use for their employees/workers and/or customers in their respective premises,” Nograles clarified about the Resolution 149 approved by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).

President Rodrigo Duterte approved IATF’s proposal to withdraw the use of face shields in regions with lower COVID-19 alert levels earlier this week.

Meanwhile, the use of face shields is still compulsory in areas under Alert Level 5 and granular lockdowns.

The Philippines is one of the few countries in the world that mandates the usage of face shields in addition to face masks.
