The election season may have come to a close, but a veteran broadcaster reiterated their duty as journalists by promising to keep an eye on the victors.

“Binantayan po natin ang kampanya, ang botohan, ang bilangan, ngayon hindi pa tapos. Babantayan po natin ‘yung mga nanalo,” veteran broadcaster Mike Enriquez said on the end of GMA News Eleksyon 2022 Special Coverage on May 10.

Enriquez’s remark was praised by various netizens on Twitter, who said they will keep supporting Filipino journalists “fighting for the truth”.

“It is not just for Mr. Mike Enriquez, this is for all [journalists] who fought to tell us the truth on all dirty works during the Duterte administration and Marcos regime,” quotes Twitter user @exoluvzenmy.

The broadcaster’s fellow anchors Mel Tiangco and Jessica Soho have also previously trended on social media, after “appearing frustrated” at the turn-out of the elections.

“We love you Mel Tiangco, Mike Enriquez, Vicky Morales, and Karen Davila. Thank you for standing up for us and for being our voices,” tweeted another user named @yllisa4.

Former senator Bongbong Marcos and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte lead the presidential and vice-presidential race as of May 12, according to the partial and unofficial results released by the COMELEC.
