Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama has introduced retired Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Debold Sinas as the new member of the city's peace advisory board.

During the flag-raising ceremony last July 4, Sinas, who was infamously dubbed as 'mañanita cop', was appointed by Rama as an adviser of the Cebu City's Peace and Order Council (CPOC).

"Malipayon ko nga nibalik na pud ko og Cebu because the very reason mao nang ganahan ko og Cebu because I just love Cebu City (I'm happy to be back in Cebu again because the very reason I like Cebu [is] because I just love Cebu City)," Sinas said.

He acknowledged the role in order to achieve the same goal as the mayor; to have the city obtain a status that is similar to Singapore.

As Sinas assumes his post as adviser of CPOC, he is expected to work with the local PNP, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and Cebu’s Task Force Kasaligan which will be under his direct command.

The former PNP chief, who became notorious for his ‘'mañanita’ birthday party at the height of lockdown in 2020, also assured Cebuanos for his help in maintaining peace and order in the city given his experience in other law enforcement agencies

“Maasahan ninyo nga kami (at) ako will help maintain (peace and order) ug tanan nakong nahibaw-an, akong mga experience kay pirmi nakong ihatag dili lang sa police kung dili kauban sa Bureau of Fire ug sa BJMP (Bureau of Jail Management and Penology),” Sinas added.
